St George’s Day was celebrated in a very English way on Friday with fifty of Kāpiti’s finest women getting together to make the most of the occasion.
Organiser Kathleen Batchelor told KCNews the event has now been going four years and is growing in popularity each year.
“We started in 2007 and there were twenty of us and now we are up near 50.”
Kathleen, who was a native of Tooting Bec in London and is now resident at Seven Oaks in Paraparaumu, is a charming host and the atmosphere was definitely English.
“We started with a toast to the Queen and the menu includes Roast Beef and Yorkshire Pudding. Everyone was encouraged to wear something red and as you can see it is very red and white here today,” said Kathleen.
The banquet was held at the Cobb&Co restaurant in Paraparaumu.
Rules for attendance are quite simple – you must be English, and no men are allowed.
