Editor,
I AM APPALLED AT OUR MAYOR RESORTING TO A PUBLIC EXCLUDED MEETING OF COUNCIL TO NOT ONLY TRY AND INFLUENCE THE ELECTION OF ELECTRA REPRESENTATIVES BUT ALSO TRY AND CORRAL RATEPAYERS ELECTRICITY DISCOUNTS.
THIS SECRECY AND BLATANT INTERFERENCE IN AN ELECTORAL PROCESS IS NOT ACCEPTABLE BY ANY STRETCH OF THE IMAGINATION
AND RATEPAYERS WOULD DO WELL TO KEEP THIS INCIDENT IN MIND WHEN CASTING THEIR VOTES IN THE OCTOBER ELECTIONS.
A LARGE NUMBER OF OUR RATEPAYERS, BOTH YOUNG AND OLD, DEPEND ON THE ANNUAL DISCOUNT FOR SURVIVAL. THEY’RE ALREADY UNDER ENOUGH FINANCIAL PRESSURE TRYING TO PAY HIGH RATES AND PUT FOOD ON THE TABLE WITHOUT THE MAYOR TAKING AWAY MORE MONEY.
MORE EFFORT INTO CURTAILING SPIRALING RATES WOULD BE A MORE PROFITABLE USE OF TIME AND ENERGY.
