Community organisations looking for volunteers and volunteers looking for volunteer roles no longer need to seek assistance from outside the Kāpiti Coast. A new Volunteer Centre Volunteer Kāpiti will provide this service to everyone on the Kāpiti Coast, from Pukerua Bay all the way up to Ōtaki.
Volunteer Kāpiti will open its doors on Monday 21 June 2010 in a launch celebration which will take place in the Kāpiti Community Centre. Jenny Rowan, Mayor of the Kāpiti District will officially open the office with a ribbon cutting of the Volunteer Kāpiti office.
Manager of Volunteer Kāpiti Janet Cowper says, “We are very excited about being able to provide this service to the Kāpiti Coast. After nearly two years of hard work and dedication by many individuals and supporters we look forward to providing this vital connection between volunteers and Not for Profit organisations in the local community. We acknowledge the remarkable work of the many Not‐for‐Profit organisations in the community and are here to support these groups further with the service that we provide.”
The Volunteer Kāpiti opening occurs during Volunteer Awareness Week, a nation wide annual event aiming to encourage more people to volunteer. The promotion week, which begins on Sunday 20 June and runs through to Saturday 26 June, this year carries the theme of “Volunteering across the Generations”. This theme highlights the opportunities for volunteering across all generations, how different forms of volunteering appeal to particular generational groups and various examples of intergenerational volunteering, including family volunteering.
Volunteer Kāpiti will continue their launch celebration and contribute to Volunteer Awareness Week by holding a promotional stall on Wednesday 23 June in Coastlands Shopping Mall providing information to interested community members about its services and volunteering opportunities in the Kāpiti district.
