I think we have recently found out from muted newspaper reports just what this road development spurt is all about. Quite simply the decision has been taken to close down the country’s rail freight system.
To give Government its due, for once we have a Government that is taking a very long term view in that this wind down of rail is to involve a long and slow process. A massive increase in motorwaay standard roading is needed. A pity that they are trying to do it sneakily! Also I wonder whether the road freight industry is paying its fair wack of the costs involved. Doubt it!
