One Kāpiti has welcomed a move by two Community Boards to join it in pushing for realistic policies and “good and competent people” to stand in the October elections.
It says an approach by the Paraparaumu/Raumati and the Paekākāariki Community Boards reflects the same deep-seated ratepayer concerns One Kāpiti is picking up about the present regime.
One Kāpiti chairman Mike Gilbert says his group, which set out to identify common sense and business-like candidates it could support has so far identified six it is willing to endorse.
They include districtwide candidates Helene Donaldson and Mike Cardiff, Waikanae Ward candidate Tony Lloyd and Paraparaumu Ward candidates Tony Lester and Mark Benton.
Mr Gilbert says some of the nine points proposed by the two Community Boards as goals for “good and competent people” are similar to the seven points put forward by One Kāpiti in early July.
“What is coming through loud and strong is that there is a strong wish to ensure that the elected representatives on the next Kāpiti Coast District Council have the background, experience, and commitment to stick to the knitting and make good decisions on behalf of our communities.”
