Lions help out with Heads Up for Kids

Lions Clubs New Zealand and Resene Paints are making a big investment in kiwi kids with Heads Up for Kids. This nationwide campaign is asking every New Zealander to dig out and donate all the old coins, banknotes and any foreign currency that’s been stashed away in drawers and cupboards.

Alan Boaden, head of currency at the Reserve Bank, estimates that there is about $116 million of old money lying around in people’s
homes ($80 million in unreturned old notes and about $36 million in old coins).
The Lions are collecting the old money and the proceeds will go to a selection youth programmes and charities.
Any coins collected will be sold by banks as scrap metal to South Korea while any foreign currency will be a sold to Coin Co International who will pay 75% of the face value.
