Marilyn Stephens, a business and policy consultant, has announced her intention to stand for the Kāpiti Coast District Council in this year’s local government elections. Ms Stephens will stand in the Paraparaumu Ward.
“I love the Kāpiti Coast, “says Ms Stephens. “It is a fabulous place to live with so much to offer and so much potential. I enjoy the diversity, the family focus, and the outdoors environment. I invite you all to work with me to maximise its potential and retain its special qualities.”
Ms Stephens says it is important that people’s views are genuinely represented at Council.
“I am committed to true community representation and better communication with ratepayers. Key issues for Kāpiti are: water storage solutions, a comprehensive local transport package (road, rail and air), and appropriate spending and decision making processes. I am opposed to water metering, the Expressway Bypass and wasteful spending.”
Ms Stephens is a member of Rotary, Chair of the Paraparaumu Branch of the Labour Party, and past Board member of the China New Zealand Business Council. “I am also a member of the Hospitality Club, an international organisation, through which I regularly host guests from overseas and enjoy the opportunity of showcasing the Kāpiti Coast”.
As well as being a Registered Psychiatric Nurse, Ms Stephens also has a Master of Arts with first class honours in Education and a Master of Business Administration.
Ms Stephens says she is very much looking forward to representing the Paraparaumu Ward on Council.
“I am action focused and have the drive and energy to get things done. I also have a strong sense of social justice. I feel I am able to make a positive contribution at a time when Kāpiti most needs intelligent pragmatic thinking: strong business and policy experience; and a commitment to true community representation.
