Kāpiti Police have arrested and charged a 22 year old man in connection with the death of 20 year old Sean Strongman-Lintern of Paraparaumu in the Kāpiti Lights complex in the early hours of Saturday morning.
Officer in charge of the Kāpiti Mana CIB Detective Senior Sergeant Mike Oxnam says Police patrol cars entered the carpark area of the Kāpiti Lights complex around 12:40am this morning and found the victim lying on the ground.
“From our enquiries so far, it appears an altercation had taken place between the deceased and another male in the vicinity of the Monteiths Kāpiti Junction bar, prior to the arrival of Police. Sadly, the victim died at the scene.”
A 22 year old man has been charged with murder a short time ago and will be appearing in the Porirua District Court on Monday.
More than 30 Police staff are currently working on the investigation and a scene examination has been underway today in the Kāpiti Lights complex.
“As a result of the post-mortem examination carried out this afternoon, Police are now seeking any information relating to a knife or similar item that may have been discarded in the Kāpiti Lights area or along State Highway One south of Paraparaumu to Pukerua Bay.”
With this being the second violent death of a young person at the same scene in the last five weeks major questions are being asked about the safety of young people in Kāpiti.
Mayor Jenny Rowan said “I don’t think it’s any worse here than anywhere else. This is just two separate incidents that are most unfortunate.”
DSS Oxnam says anyone with any information in relation to this or anyone who was in the vicinity of the Monteiths Kāpiti Junction bar in the early hours of this morning and has not yet been spoken to by Police are urged to contact Kāpiti Police on (04) 296 6800 or phone Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
