Fifteen local basketball coaches were put through their paces by Deslea Wrathall on the BBNZ Community Coaching Course held recently at the Paraparaumu Community gym.
Deslea is a multiple National Championships basketball coach. As a former Tall Fern, Deslea has a wealth of experience, including being the Head Coach of the Junior Tall Blacks from 2011-2013. She is currently the Head Coach of the NZ Maori Women.
Kāpiti Basketball head of coaching Angelo Robinson was excited that 15 coaches took up the opportunity. “Coaching is so important especially when we are guiding young athletes. Kāpiti has a wealth of basketball talent and as a sport basketball is getting more and more popular. We have more teams than coaches, so when Deslea offered to come up to Kāpiti to pass on her wisdom it was an offer we couldn’t turn down.” One very keen mum new to basketball said “Wow Deslea knows her stuff, I thought I would be out of my depth but she quickly put me at ease and made the learning so much fun, I would recommend it to anyone keen to help out.”
