Metcalf kicks stunner, as Warriors Win in Extra-time Thriller

The New Zealand Warriors triumphed in a extra-time 20–18 golden point victory over the Brisbane Broncos at Go Media Stadium this Saturday. Luke Metcalf nailed the penalty from half-way in the 82nd minute to clinch the result.

The two sides were locked 6–6 at halftime in a gritty contest that saw both teams trade tries and momentum throughout the match. The Warriors scored through Jacob Laban Halasima, Edward Kosi, Luke Metcalf, and Marata Niukore, while the Broncos responded with tries from Billy Walters, Jesse Arthars, and Reece Walsh—all converted by Adam Reynolds.

With the scores tied at full-time, the match headed into golden point extra time. A Broncos kickoff miscue gave the Warriors a penalty from halfway. Up stepped Metcalf, who slotted the goal and sealed the two-point win in front of a raucous home crowd.

“Luke showed real nerve,” said Warriors coach Andrew Webster. “It was a pressure moment, and he stepped up big time.”

The Warriors’ defence once again stood tall, especially in the dying minutes, continuing their impressive trend of resilience late in games.

This hard-fought victory lifts the Warriors further up the ladder ahead of their Anzac Round showdown with the Newcastle Knights in Christchurch on April 25.
