Porirua Careers Expo returns, Bigger and Better for 2025

Porirua’s popular Careers Expo is back for 2025, bringing even more opportunities for job seekers and students to connect with industry professionals and education providers.

Following a successful debut last year, the free event will again be held at Te Rauparaha Arena on Tuesday 13 May, from 9.30am to 4.30pm.

Porirua Mayor Anita Baker said the 2024 event attracted close to 3,000 rangatahi from Porirua and beyond, proving its value to the community.

“This free event is vital to help young people in our community explore opportunities in work or further education,” Baker said.

More than 80 stalls will showcase careers in technology, health, construction, trades, and many other industries. Attendees can also pick up tips on creating a standout CV, preparing for interviews, and mapping out their career journey.

Students from all of Porirua’s colleges, along with Tawa College, will visit the expo during school hours, with buses provided for students in years 11 to 13. The event is also open to anyone from across the Wellington region looking for career advice or educational pathways.

“Everyone is welcome, even if they don’t live or go to school in Porirua,” Baker said.

The expo is being delivered in partnership with Te Rūnanga o Toa Rangatira, Ministry of Social Development, Ministry of Education, Le Fale Jobs and Skills Hub, Partners Porirua, and other workforce agencies.

On arrival, attendees will receive an Expo Passport to guide them around the event. Those who collect at least six stamps from different exhibitors and complete the ‘My Journey’ section will go into the draw to win one of eight $500 Prezzy Cards, courtesy of Tranquil IT.

Other giveaways and prizes will be on offer throughout the day, along with a free barbecue providing kai for all visitors.
