A man found critically injured on a Miramar footpath has died in hospital, prompting an unexplained death investigation by police.
The man was discovered unconscious at the intersection of Camperdown Road and Totara Road around 2:20 a.m. on Monday. His vehicle was located nearby.
The incident follows an earlier home burglary on Darlington Road at 2 a.m., where two residents confronted an intruder who then fled after a struggle. Police are investigating whether the two incidents are connected.
Public Appeal for Information
Authorities are asking anyone who was in the area between 12:30 a.m. and 2:30 a.m. to come forward with any relevant information or dashcam footage. Residents in Darlington Road, Totara Road, and Camperdown Road are urged to check for missing clothing or discarded items on their properties.
Investigators are particularly interested in sightings of a man wearing a white cap, shorts, and gumboots, as well as any reports of suspicious activity in the area over the past few weeks.
Ongoing Investigation
Police are conducting scene examinations and visiting local properties for CCTV footage. Detective Inspector Nick Pritchard confirmed that while the intruder was unknown to the burglary victims, officers have not yet determined if he was linked to the deceased man.
“We know these events will cause concern in the community, and we are working hard to answer the many questions around Monday morning’s incidents,” Pritchard said.
Reassurance patrols will continue in Miramar in the coming days.
