A 36-year-old man has been arrested in Cannons Creek following a police search warrant targeting fleeing driver incidents in Porirua.
Detective Sergeant Vince Smylie confirmed the man faces charges of failing to stop, unlawfully getting onto a motorcycle, and dangerous driving. He is set to appear in the Porirua District Court on 11 March.
During the operation, police seized three vehicles from the property, including a motorbike and a moped—both believed to be stolen—as well as a dirt bike.
Authorities have noted a rise in fleeing driver incidents involving dirt bikes in recent months. Police remain committed to holding offenders accountable, highlighting concerns over riders operating at high speeds without helmets, posing risks to themselves and others.
“We are committed to ensuring the community is safe, especially on our roads,” Smylie said.
Police urge the public to report antisocial road behaviour by calling 111 for urgent incidents or 105 for non-emergency reports. Anonymous tips can also be shared via Crime Stoppers at 0800 555 111.
