Tawa Residents Urged to Engage with Community Emergency Hubs

Tawa residents are being encouraged to familiarise themselves with their nearest Community Emergency Hub and provide feedback on proposed changes to the hub network.

Community Emergency Hubs are places where neighbours can come together after a disaster to share resources, coordinate local responses, and support one another. With emergency services stretched during major events, these hubs play a key role in helping communities stay resilient.

Proposed Changes to Tawa’s Hubs

The Wellington Region Emergency Management Office (WREMO) is proposing to consolidate Tawa’s four Community Emergency Hubs into three to improve efficiency and coordination. Currently, the hubs are located at:

  • Redwood School, 71A Redwood Avenue
  • Tawa School, 6A Oxford Street
  • Linden School, 58 Ranui Terrace
  • Greenacres School, 60–62 Raroa Terrace

Under the proposal, the hubs at Redwood School and Tawa School will remain unchanged, while either Linden School or Greenacres School will continue to operate, resulting in one location closing.

WREMO is seeking feedback from Tawa residents to ensure the hub network continues to meet the needs of the community. Locals are encouraged to share their views through public consultation.

Building Community Resilience

WREMO has been running events at Community Emergency Hubs across the Wellington region to help residents connect with their neighbours and strengthen community preparedness. These events include emergency response practices, workshops, and information sessions.
