Porirua’s Toa Basketball Club delivered an outstanding performance at the Poitūkohu Māori Nationals 2025, showcasing skill and determination across all divisions.
The annual event, held in January, is one of the highlights of the New Zealand basketball calendar, celebrating Māori talent from tamariki to pakeke. Toa’s teams excelled in the Rangatahi division, claiming first place in the U10 Kowhai, U10 Kauri, U12 Kahikatea, and U14 Kauri grades. The U16K Kowhai team also performed strongly, finishing second.
Coaches and supporters praised the effort and dedication of the players, with one coach describing the results as a reflection of the team’s hard work and the unwavering support of their whānau.
The excitement continues as Toa’s pakeke teams remain in competition, with finals scheduled for today and tomorrow. Organisers have commended the efforts of the teams, as well as the contributions of coaches, managers, and supporters who helped make the event a success.
