Porirua Youth Fund Opens for 2024 Projects

The Te Kiwa Nui Polyfest was one recipient of a Young People's Fund grant in 2023.

Applications are now open for Porirua City Council’s annual Young People’s Fund, offering financial support for youth-focused projects in the community. This year, two funding tiers are available: two grants of $50,000 per year, for up to three years, and up to six one-off payments of $6,000.

Porirua Mayor Anita Baker says, “We make these grants available to support projects that will have a significant impact on children and young people living in Porirua. Successful projects in the past have empowered our city’s youth to take on new challenges and learn new skills.”

Eligible groups of young people can apply, provided they are backed by a legal entity such as a school or non-profit organisation. Projects aimed at improving areas like diversity, inclusion, the environment, and health and wellbeing will be prioritised in the selection process. Mayor Baker adds, “We want to ensure projects that receive funding will reflect our aim to keep tamariki and rangatahi at the heart of our city.”

The $50,000 grants, awarded every three years, were given in 2021 to Porirua East Kāhui Ako and Ngā Uri o Whiti Te Ra Mai Le Moana Trust. Last year’s $6,000 grants supported initiatives ranging from autism-focused oral health education to community garden creation at WELLfed in Porirua East.

Applications for this year’s fund close soon. Interested organisations are encouraged to apply promptly to support Porirua’s rangatahi and tamariki.
