Porirua residents can now drop off used tyres at Spicer Landfill for free, thanks to the Tyrewise product stewardship scheme, which aims to recycle tyres into new materials like playground matting, sportsgrounds, or even cement.
The service allows the disposal of up to five tyres at a time, provided they are clean and without rims. The drop-off site is located at the far end of the transfer station. For tyres with rims, Spicer Landfill offers recycling services at a cost of $6 per tyre for de-rimming.
