Kāpiti Women in Business are hosting guest Speaker Rosie Overcomer, as well as MC Catherine Scullin for this years International Women’s Day Lunch on Friday 8th March at Southwards.
Rosie was a member of Gloriavale – a religious cult, and her story is a testament to the strength of human resilience and unwavering determination.
Born into the tightly-knit community of Gloriavale, Rosie’s life underwent a profound transformation at the age of 27 when she summoned the courage to break free from the only life she had ever known.
Within the confines of Gloriavale, life was rigorously controlled. Marriages were arranged, individuality was suppressed, questions were forbidden, and personal thoughts were deemed heretical. Stepping out of line was not just a community transgression; it was perceived as a violation of God’s will and the community leader’s authority.
Rosie’s own experiences growing up within Gloriavale led her to the painful realisation that her child’s safety was at risk within the community’s confines.
This incredible journey is an inspiration to all, demonstrating that, regardless of the obstacles faced, the human spirit possesses the strength to overcome and construct a life filled with purpose and meaning. Rosie Overcomer’s story is a testament to the enduring power of the human will and the triumph of the human spirit over adversity.
