Porirua Police and Māori Wardens are stepping up patrols following a spate of damage and theft incidents at schools in Porirua East, with repairs underway and security heightened across the long weekend.
On Monday night, 21 April, buildings and vehicles at two schools suffered over $32,000 in damage. The incidents, which occurred between 9pm and 11:30pm, have prompted a strong community response and swift action from local agencies.
“Agencies, along with the wider community, have come together in support, repairs are under way and security guards will be in place across the long weekend,” said Inspector Renée Perkins, Area Commander for Kāpiti-Mana.
Perkins expressed gratitude for the community’s involvement as the investigation continues.
“I want to thank the community for offering their support as this Police investigation continues,” she said.
While police have strong leads on potential suspects, they are still appealing for public assistance.
“We are still looking for information from the public which could help,” Perkins said. “We urge anyone with information to contact Police online at 105.police.govt.nz, clicking ‘Update Report’ or by calling 105 and quoting file number 250422/8244.”
The increased presence of law enforcement and community patrols aims to reassure residents and protect school properties over the upcoming holiday period.
