Police are monitoring gang movements across the Wellington region today as a funeral procession makes its way from Moera (Lower Hutt) to Foxton.

Inspector Wade Jennings, Hutt Valley Area Commander, said motorists should expect a large number of gang members and associates on the roads, particularly around 11am when the convoy is expected to travel north.

“A visible police presence will be in place to ensure public safety and deter any unlawful activity,” Jennings said.

Authorities are urging all road users to prioritise safety and avoid any behaviour that could endanger others. Jennings added that any illegal actions not dealt with at the time will be investigated and followed up with enforcement.

“If you have concerns for your safety, or witness illegal behaviour happening now, please call 111 immediately,” he said.

Members of the public can also report incidents or submit video footage via the 105 non-emergency service, either online or by phone. Anonymous tips can be shared with Crime Stoppers by calling 0800 555 111.
