Police are appealing for public assistance after a hit-and-run incident in central Wellington on Saturday evening.

Around 6:30pm on 19 April, a pedestrian was struck by a vehicle at the intersection of Tory and Tennyson Streets. The pedestrian was briefly carried on the car’s bonnet before falling onto the road. Thankfully, they sustained only minor injuries.

The driver did not stop and left the scene. Police believe the vehicle involved is a light blue hatchback, which may have damage to its windscreen wipers due to the collision.

“This vehicle was captured on CCTV and this footage is forming a key part of our inquiries,” said Senior Constable Brett Main.

Police are urging the driver or anyone with knowledge of the incident to come forward. Information can be shared through the 105 service, either online or via phone, using reference number P062293969. Anonymous tips can also be made to Crime Stoppers at 0800 555 111.

“We would urge anyone who knows who this was, or if this was you, to please do the right thing and come forward,” said Main.
