Shoppers will have more time to browse and relax thanks to changes to parking restrictions along Main Road, approved by Wellington City Council.
Nine previously P60 (60-minute) parking spaces have now been converted to P120, allowing for up to two hours of parking. The updated time limits apply to three spaces outside the Catholic Church, opposite the library, and six spaces outside Madam Saigon.
The move has been welcomed by local businesses and residents who say the additional time makes it easier for people to enjoy local shops, services and eateries without watching the clock.
In addition to the extended parking, a new traffic rule has been introduced near the Pink Pineapple retail area. Drivers exiting the service lane can now only turn left. Right-hand turns are no longer permitted, a change designed to improve safety and traffic flow on the busy stretch of road.
Wellington City Council has also confirmed plans to introduce a new P10 loading bay in the same service lane in the coming months, further supporting accessibility for local businesses.
The Tawa Business Group says the changes reflect growing support for making the town centre more user-friendly and attractive to visitors.
Local residents are encouraged to take note of the changes and adjust travel and parking plans accordingly.
