A 27-year-old man has been charged after allegedly committing a series of indecent acts on the Metlink bus network in Wellington earlier this month.
Police received multiple reports in early March of a male passenger behaving in a sexually inappropriate manner toward lone female passengers. The alleged conduct caused significant distress and concern for public safety.
Following a swift investigation, Wellington Police identified, located, and arrested the man without incident. He now faces several charges of performing indecent acts and is scheduled to appear in Wellington District Court on 31 March.
“We understand these incidents can be deeply distressing,” a police spokesperson said. “We hope this arrest provides reassurance to the large sector of the community who rely on public transport.”
Police confirmed that support is being offered to the victims.
“Wellington Police remain committed to ensuring all members of the public are safe and feel safe as they move about our community,” the spokesperson added.
