Autumn’s arrival won’t dim the excitement as CubaDupa returns to Wellington this weekend, turning Cuba Street and its surrounds into a buzzing hub of music, food, and performance from 29–30 March.
Now one of Aotearoa’s most iconic free festivals, CubaDupa is known for its diverse, whānau-friendly lineup featuring more than 140 acts and 170 performances across two packed days. From 12pm to midnight on Saturday and 11am to 6pm on Sunday, festival-goers can expect everything from music and dance to theatre and visual arts lighting up central Pōneke.
Wellington City Council, a long-time supporter of CubaDupa, hails the festival as both a celebration of creativity and a vital boost to the local economy.
“CubaDupa showcases the best of Wellington and is by far my favourite event of the year,” said Mayor Tory Whanau. “It’s an investment in our cultural capital and solidifies Wellington’s reputation as a creative hub.”

To accommodate the festivities, significant road closures will be in effect from 11.59pm on Friday 28 March until 3am on Monday 31 March. Locals and visitors are encouraged to use rideshares, public transport, or alternative travel modes during the weekend.
With bustling foot traffic and busy streets expected, pedestrians, cyclists, and e-scooter riders are urged to take extra care. Metlink has provided updates on timetable changes and bus replacements on their website.
Whether you’re drawn by the beats, the street eats, or the spectacular performances, CubaDupa 2025 promises an unforgettable experience that celebrates the bold, inclusive spirit of Wellington.
