Police have arrested and charged a 28-year-old man following an aggravated burglary at a Miramar home earlier this month.
Officers were called to a property on Darlington Road around 2am on Monday 17 March, after the occupants discovered an intruder inside their home. An altercation reportedly took place before the alleged offender fled the scene.
One person in the house sustained minor injuries, while the other three were unharmed.
Following extensive enquiries, Police arrested the man today, Wednesday 26 March. He is due to appear in the Wellington District Court tomorrow, charged with aggravated burglary and aggravated injury.
Police are continuing to investigate the death of 63-year-old Abdul Nabizadah and are working to establish whether it may be linked to the burglary.
Authorities are seeking the public’s help in identifying two individuals seen in the area around the time of the incidents:
– At 12.28am, a man wearing a light-coloured top and dark pants was seen walking down Camperdown Road from Totara Street, turning into Darlington Road. Mr Nabizadah had arrived in Totara Street in his silver Toyota Aqua (registration NQE681) just minutes earlier, at 12.25am. Police believe the man may have seen Mr Nabizadah or his vehicle.
– At 1.30am, another man wearing a blue shirt and activewear was seen running south on Darlington Road, crossing the Camperdown Road intersection.
Detective Inspector Nick Pritchard says the incidents have caused understandable concern in the community. “Our team is working tirelessly to establish what happened and to bring answers and closure for Mr Nabizadah’s family.”
