Tawa College’s girls’ cricket team made history in Christchurch, securing the title of New Zealand Secondary Schools Cricket Champions. The squad dominated the competition, winning all four matches, including a decisive victory over Christchurch Girls’ High School, the tournament’s second-placed team.
The team, consisting of players from Year 9 to Year 13—including some new to cricket—displayed remarkable skill and teamwork. In addition to claiming the championship, Tawa College also received the Spirit of Cricket award, a testament to their positive attitude and sportsmanship, as recognised by the umpires.

Coach Micah Conroy, a former Tawa College student, played a pivotal role in the team’s success. His calm and encouraging coaching approach over the past five years has helped shape the players’ skills and confidence.
Special recognition was given to the departing Year 13 players, Ava Conroy and Maiarangi Waipara. Ava, the team’s captain, was praised for her composed leadership, while Maiarangi’s infectious energy and unwavering support uplifted the squad. Both players embodied the college’s Do Justly motto and will be deeply missed.
Tawa College celebrates not just the championship win but the spirit in which the team played, highlighting the school’s strong sporting culture and values.
