
Police are investigating a series of suspicious fires at churches in Masterton early this morning.
Emergency services responded to the first fire around 4:25 a.m., with three more blazes reported shortly after.
Police checks at other churches in the area uncovered evidence suggesting at least three more churches were targeted but did not catch fire.
Officers remain at the affected sites alongside Fire and Emergency New Zealand as investigations continue. Police have also increased reassurance patrols in Masterton and nearby towns, including Featherston and Carterton.
