The Porirua East Taiao Festival will take place on Saturday, 15 February 2025, offering a day of community, conservation, and outdoor activities across Cannons Creek Lakes Reserve and Bothamley Park. The event invites locals to connect with nature and learn about environmental efforts in the area.
Festival Schedule
9:00 AM – 11:00 AM: Cannons Creek Lake Reserve
Members of the Ngahere Korowai Collective: Aotearoa Pasifika Men’s Group will host a gathering at a former planting site and monitoring zone. Attendees can share a coffee and conversation while learning about their restoration work in the area.
12:00 PM – 2:00 PM: Bothamley Park Blackberry Patch
Locals are invited to harvest blackberries and take part in workshops run by Conservation Volunteers NZ. The sessions will focus on pest plants and animals, with interactive games and discussions.
2:00 PM – 4:00 PM: Bothamley Park, Champion Street Entrance
The Wai Connection team will lead a hands-on water testing activity. Participants can assist in collecting samples from the stream or observe and help analyse the results. Gumboots are recommended for those keen to get involved.
The festival is an opportunity for the community to engage with local conservation efforts, meet others with a shared interest in the environment, and enjoy a day outdoors. Attendees are welcome to join for specific sessions or stay for the full event.
