The Wellington Phoenix women’s team delivered a thrilling comeback victory against the Newcastle Jets in an A-League match in Porirua. The match culminated with Manaia Elliott’s dramatic goal in the eighth and final minute of extra time, sealing a 3-2 win.

Trailing 2-0 at halftime, the Phoenix capitalized on a strong wind to stage a second-half comeback. Elliott, a halftime substitute, scored twice, including the decisive goal, and assisted captain Annalie Longo’s equalizer. This marked the Phoenix’s fourth consecutive home win in Porirua, lifting them to fourth place in the standings.

The game was also a milestone for Alyssa Whinham, who became the second player in the club’s history to reach 50 matches.

The Phoenix now head to Woy Woy on the Central Coast to take on the seventh-place Central Coast Mariners next Sunday. This will be their first meeting this season, even though the Phoenix have already played Newcastle and Adelaide United twice.
