Police investigating a fatal shooting in Naenae have issued a warrant for the arrest of 28-year-old Wipuhara Kapene, who is wanted for the murder of Albert Enoka.
Albert Enoka, 39, of Naenae, was shot outside an address on Seddon Street at approximately 3:10 pm on Tuesday, 10 December. A police patrol unit arrived shortly after the incident to find Mr Enoka critically injured. Despite immediate first aid efforts from first responders, Mr Enoka died at the scene.
Detective Inspector Haley Ryan says a warrant for Kapene’s arrest was issued this morning following inquiries into the homicide.
“Kapene is considered armed and dangerous, and he should not be approached,” says Detective Inspector Ryan. “If you see him, call 111 immediately.”
Police believe Kapene may be receiving assistance to evade capture and warn that anyone harbouring or aiding him will face prosecution. Appeal for Information and CCTV Footage
Detective Inspector Ryan says police are seeking further information to establish Kapene’s movements and other activity around the time of the shooting. Officers are focusing on identifying the movements of a black Mercedes, registration KRP453, before and after 3:10 pm on 10 December.
“CCTV footage will be crucial to this inquiry,” says Detective Inspector Ryan. “We are urging anyone with private CCTV, video, or photos from the area to share them with us via our dedicated portal.”
Particular areas of interest include Seddon Street, Judd Crescent, Wood Grove, Keys Street, Waddington Drive, Naenae Road, Hay Street, and Waiwhetu Road.

Kapene is known to have links to Wellington, the Wairarapa, and the Eastern District. Police reiterate that he remains dangerous and urge the public not to approach him.
