Police are closely monitoring a gang-related funeral occurring today, Tuesday, 29 October, in Lower Hutt and Porirua. The service is scheduled in Lower Hutt this morning, with a procession to Whenua Tapu Cemetery in Porirua anticipated in the early afternoon.
Inspector Shaun Lingard, Hutt Valley Prevention Manager, confirms that law enforcement has maintained a visible presence overnight in Lower Hutt. “Police have had a visible presence in Lower Hutt overnight and will monitor the funeral procession out to Whenua Tapu today,” says Inspector Lingard. “Unlawful activity will not be tolerated, and any unlawful behaviour will be investigated and followed up with enforcement action.”
Traffic delays are expected late this morning, especially near Moera in Lower Hutt, with additional disruptions possible in Porirua, including along SH 58, early this afternoon. Motorists are encouraged to plan their travel accordingly.
