A man was hospitalised in a serious condition on Monday night after being shot in the legs while reportedly interrupting a car break-in attempt in Tītahi Bay, near Wellington.
Police say they were alerted to the incident on Dimock Street at 10:20 p.m., where they found the injured man. Preliminary investigations suggest he disrupted two individuals attempting to break into cars along the street.
Following the shooting, police have cordoned off the property where the incident occurred. Armed officers were seen on Tuesday morning guarding the area while others searched the surrounding grounds and grass berms for additional evidence. Another officer was observed documenting the scene with photographs as part of the ongoing investigation.
