The nominations for the Porirua Sports Awards 2024 are now open, marking a new chapter in the event’s long history by allowing nominations to be submitted online for the first time. This change aims to make it more convenient for the community to recognise and celebrate excellence in sport.
Since its inception in 1969, the Porirua Sports Awards have honoured athletes, coaches, and volunteers who have made significant contributions to the sporting landscape. This year’s awards will cover achievements from 1 September 2023 to 31 August 2024, with the awards gala scheduled for 6 November 2024 at Te Rauparaha Arena.
The community is encouraged to nominate deserving individuals or teams in one of the following categories:
- Young Sportsman of the Year: For outstanding achievement by a sportsman under 19 years of age.
- Young Sportswoman of the Year: For outstanding achievement by a sportswoman under 19 years of age.
- Sportsman of the Year: For the highest achievement by a male athlete.
- Sportswoman of the Year: For the highest achievement by a female athlete.
- Disabled Sportsperson of the Year: For excellence by a disabled athlete in individual or team sports.
- Coach of the Year: For outstanding coaching performance.
- Team of the Year: For the team that has excelled within the qualifying period.
- Volunteer of the Year: For the administrator or volunteer who has made the most significant contribution to sport.
- Service to Sport: For individuals honoured for exceptional long-term dedication to sport.
