Two Porirua eateries have made a strong impression in this year’s Burger Wellington competition, securing spots among the top five finalists from nearly 200 venues. The annual event, part of Visa Wellington On a Plate, saw over 17,000 burgers rated by enthusiastic foodies, leading to the selection of the final contenders.
Sushil’s Musclechef Kitchen and Café and Elemental Eats are proudly representing Porirua with their unique creations, standing out in a competition that featured everything from roadkill-inspired burgers to whimsical Willy Wonka-themed offerings.
Porirua’s Finalists:
- Celebration of Spices – Sushil’s Musclechef Kitchen and Café (Porirua)
- Mucho Crunch Birria – Elemental Eats (Porirua)
These two entries will now face off against three other finalists from Wellington CBD, including the reigning champion from One80 and a previous winner from Apache. The Porirua contenders bring a distinctive flair to the competition, showcasing the city’s diverse culinary talent.
“Burger Wellington is more than an annual celebration of the humble burger ‒ it’s a chance for chefs to show off their skill and creativity ‒ and boy, did Wellington’s chefs get creative this year,” says Wellington On a Plate manager Beth Brash.
The winner of Burger Wellington 2024 will be announced on Monday, September 2, following a final round of judging this week. Porirua’s strong presence in the finals highlights the city’s growing reputation as a culinary destination.
