Porirua residents are facing significant disruptions today as heavy rain continues to cause severe flooding across the area, affecting key roads and transportation.

Local resident Adam Calver reported early signs of trouble on State Highway 58 near Browns Bay, describing the scene as “flooded, as per usual.” He noted that while the road remains passable, one side is mostly underwater. “Consider other ways,” Calver advised those planning to travel through the area.

The situation is even more severe on Companionway, near Cannon and Cabin Lanes, where Angela Taylor has reported major flooding. “One vehicle is stuck already, and another parked vehicle isn’t looking so good,” Taylor shared, urging fellow residents to avoid driving through the area if possible. She mentioned that a service request has been lodged with the Porirua City Council (PCC), but acknowledged that response teams would be stretched thin today due to the widespread nature of the flooding.

Adding to the transport woes, an update at 8:05 am confirmed that trains north of Porirua have been halted due to a landslip. Authorities are urging extreme caution, as surface flooding has also been reported in Whitby, Porirua East, and the Judgeford area. The PCC has dispatched flooding teams where possible, but residents are advised to stay off the roads unless absolutely necessary.

For those needing assistance or wishing to report flooding, the PCC contact centre is available at 04 237 5089, though callers should expect delays due to high demand.

With more rain expected, Porirua residents are urged to stay safe, stay informed, and avoid unnecessary travel until conditions improve.
