Battle Hill Community Planting.

Porirua residents are invited to participate in the final community planting day of 2024 at Battle Hill Farm Forest Park. The event, organised by Porirua City Council and Greater Wellington, is scheduled for Saturday, 27 July, from 1:00 PM to 4:00 PM. The aim is to plant native grasses to restore and enhance the mauri of local waterways.

This free event is open to all ages, and attendees are asked to register by emailing [email protected] with their name and the number of people attending. Participants are advised to bring gumboots or sturdy closed-toe shoes, warm and waterproof clothing, a sun hat, sunscreen, and a reusable water bottle. Organisers will provide plants, planting tools, food, first aid support, hand sanitiser, and additional sunscreen.

Public toilets will be available on-site. There is vehicle access and parking at Battle Hill Farm Forest Park, with parking at the first car park near the public toilets. From there, participants should follow the branded flags down the drive to the gazebos. Staff from Porirua City Council and Greater Wellington, in high-visibility clothing, will be available to assist with directions.

Event sign-up and administration will begin at 12:45 PM, with the planting activities running from 1:00 PM to 4:00 PM. Participants will receive an email 24 hours before the event to confirm details or inform them of any changes due to weather conditions.
