Starting 1 July, fares on bus, rail, and ferry services under Metlink will see a 10% increase. This adjustment was sanctioned by the Greater Wellington Regional Council earlier this year during the annual fare review to offset rising network costs and inflationary pressures.
From the specified date, peak adult fares will experience a rise ranging between $0.18 and $1.60, depending on the travel zone across the network’s 14 zones.
To provide specific examples, the cost for a two-zone bus journey for an adult using a Snapper card will escalate from $3.02 to $3.32 during peak hours, and from $1.51 to $1.66 during off-peak times. For rail, an average five-zone journey for an adult using a Snapper card will now cost $6.07 during peak hours, up from $5.52, and $3.04 during off-peak times, up from $2.76.
Passengers are encouraged to explore and apply for available discounts through Community Connect and Tertiary concessions, and to utilise the half-price off-peak fares. These discounted fares are applicable to all Snapper journeys, including those with concessions. Off-peak times are defined as travel before 7am on buses, between 9am and 3pm, and after 6:30pm on both bus and rail services during weekdays, as well as all day on weekends and public holidays.
