The Porirua Love Local Expo 2024, held on June 8 at Te Rauparaha Arena, was a vibrant celebration of local entrepreneurship, creativity, and community spirit. Now in its fifth year, this annual event has become a highlight on Porirua’s calendar, showcasing the best of the city’s local products, services, crafts, and community initiatives.
Running from 10 am to 4 pm, the expo offered free entry to all visitors, attracting a diverse crowd eager to explore the array of offerings. This year, over 100 local businesses and community groups participated, filling the arena with a wide range of products and services. From handcrafted home decor, jewellery, and fashion to delicious food and beverages, there was something for everyone. Food enthusiasts were treated to craft beers, classic Kiwi kai, and specialty foods with flavours spanning from the Pacific to the Mediterranean.
The Love Local Expo began in 2020 as a response to the challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic. Its aim was to support local businesses by providing them with a platform to connect with the community. The event has grown significantly since then, reflecting the resilience and innovation of Porirua’s local enterprises.
Porirua Mayor Anita Baker praised the event, stating, “Love Local really brings the best of our city together under one roof, highlighting the sheer amount of innovation, service, and quality we have right here in Porirua.” Her words captured the essence of the expo, which not only showcases local businesses but also fosters a sense of community pride and support.
Overall, the Love Local Expo 2024 was a testament to the vibrant and dynamic spirit of Porirua. The event successfully highlighted the city’s entrepreneurial talent and creative energy, bringing the community together in a celebration of local success and shared aspirations.
