Minimum Wage increase from 1 April 2024

Kāpiti employment recruitment company Star People is advising employers to have payment systems in place to meet the new minimum wage that starts on April 1.

Director of Star People Julia Palmer says the adult minimum wage will see a two percent increase to $23.15 per hour.

The training and starting hourly rate will remain at 80% of the adult minimum wage, increasing to $18.52 per hour.

Ms Palmer says employees must be paid at least the minimum hourly wage rate for every hour worked. Migrant workers have the same minimum employment rights as New Zealand workers. This includes being paid at least the minimum wage.

She says Employers need to make sure they adjust the payroll for your employees on the minimum hourly rate before 01 April 2024.
