A stunning array of birds were on display at the recent annual Kāpiti Bird Show held at the Community Centre in Paraparaumu.
Kāpiti Bird Club president Rob West says the Show was very popular and drew over 150 visitors.
There was a spectacular range of birds of all shapes, sizes and colours and a soundtrack to match.
“We are a socially oriented club and members vary from those with large aviaries to companion birds. Our membership is currently around 35 from Levin to Porirua and for this show we have 100 birds,” says Mr West.
There were three categories for judging this year. Winner of the Straight Beak category was a Gloster Canary owned by Malcolm Thorpe, while the best hooked beak winner was a Rainbow Lorikeet shown by Noel Williams. Best in Show prize went to Barry Dwyer’s Yorkshire Canary.
Mr West says the club was grateful to sponsors Pak ‘n Save, Topflite also donated some sacks of seed for the raffle as they kindly do every year, and long time supporter of the club Gus Evans Nursery.
