Get ready! It’s hereNovember is talk about it month!
‘Talk About It!’ is Epilepsy New Zealand’s national campaign dedicated to increasing awareness about epilepsy.
In November annually, Epilepsy New Zealand is asking everyone to talk and learn about epilepsy in support of raising greater awareness and understanding of the condition. ‘Talk About It!’ is an international campaign founded in America by actor Greg Grunberg. Greg enlisted the help of Hollywood celebrities to help raise awareness of his campaign. Celebrity supporters of ‘Talk About It!’ include Jack Black, Harrison Ford, Hugh Laurie, John Mayer, The Osbournes, Kristin Bell, Jennifer Garner, Kenny Rogers and Chris Pine.
In conjunction with the ‘Talk About It!’ Foundation of America, Epilepsy New Zealand invites all New Zealanders to talk and learn about epilepsy. There are many different ways to get involved, for example visit www.epilepsy.org.nz and tell your friends, family or colleagues five new things you have learnt about epilepsy.
To find out more about how you can do this, visit www.epilepsy.org.nz to read all the different ways that you can support people with epilepsy this November. EpilepsyIt’s time to talk about it.
One in fifty people have epilepsy at some point in their life. Epilepsy is a common neurological disorder that affects one to two percent of the population.
The people affected have recurring and spontaneous seizures. There are different types of seizures but they are always due to bursts of electrical activity in the brain. These bursts are caused by a chemical imbalance responsible for the transmission of impulses.
Epilepsy New Zealand, the country’s largest specialist epilepsy service provider, provides support for those with the condition and awareness for those around them. Trained Information and Support Specialists offer support and epilepsy education to people with epilepsy, their families and the community in general. To talk to a trained Epilepsy Information and Support Specialist, or to book an Epilepsy Information Seminar at your workplace, school or club for ‘Talk About It!’ this November, please phone 0800 EPILEPSY.
