K. Gurunathan – Profile

My family has lived in Kāpiti for 18 years. Kāpiti is my home. Today, all our homes and businesses are in the midst of change.
Amalgamation will mean local decision-making shifting from Kāpiti to Wellington. I will fix this by radically empowering grassroots organisations including business organisations, environmental groups and especially those that represent 28% of our population aged over 65.
KCDC bureaucrats should be transformed to become public servants.
As potential growth generators, the expressway and airport are huge game changers. I have already pushed to leverage the expressway construction period to benefit local business and employment. We need to also manage the expressway’s negative social and environmental impacts.
Thirdly, spiraling rates and debt levels have to be reviewed and made affordable. The first step to fix this – as Mayor, I will direct council’s main public servant, the CEO, to make the cuts ratepayers can live with.
