The Kāpiti Chamber of Commerce welcomes the final decision of the MacKays to Peka Peka Expressway Board of Inquiry issued today (April 12.)
Taken together with the Transmission Gulley route decision, this is an end to decades of uncertainty and will bring a boost to the whole region. It is the least disruptive of the possible routes through Kāpiti. It’s a relief that this stage of the process is over and we look forward to construction starting and the road being finished as soon as possible.
It’s now time for Kāpiti to move on from the least three and a half years and focus on shaping our future this decision will bring increased interest from investors, businesses and governmental bodies in starting or relocating here. There is land available; including in the Clean Technology Business Park, the Kāpiti Landing Airport Business Park, and within the planned District Centre.
As a community, we also need to ensure that NZTA are held to the conditions for the construction of the Expressway, and that we get the best possible road that we can with the least impact on people and the environment. It is also critical that the affected parties are dealt with promptly and fairly.
