Fisher looking to catch district-wide seat

Nick Fisher will stand for the Kāpiti District Council as a district wide candidate. Mr Fisher has previously campaigned for the Green Party both in the Taupo and the Ōtaki electorates, and has been a key player in local lobby groups in Kāpiti.
He is currently chairman of the Paraparaumu Airport Coalition and spokesman for the Alliance for a Sustainable Kāpiti, which is co-ordinating support for a better solution for traffic issues in Kāpiti, and against the proposed Kāpiti motorway.
Mr Fisher works at Te Ra School as their Resource Manager, and was previously a managing director of a vehicle repair workshop in Taupo, and still maintains a stable of classic Alfa Romeos, Citroens and BMWs.
“I will continue to support the philosophy of the Council’s long term community plan, and ensure its principles are enshrined in our District Plan. We need to ensure that Council concentrates not merely on its core responsibilities, but on ideas and improvements which improve our quality of life,” he said.
Mr Fisher lives in Raumati with his wife Nicki, a teacher at Te Ra School, and their 14 year old son Oliver.
“Having a teenage son in Kāpiti will help me keep an eye on facilities for young people in the District, particularly those enabling them to travel around safely. Kāpiti is rather short on safe cycling routes and paths. Creating better cycling and walking tracks, as well as more reserves and parks will be among my priorities on Council,” Mr Fisher said.
“Too often, decisions are based solely on economic grounds, without correctly analysing problems to come to a holistic and logical solution, including social, cultural and health affects. This type of short term thinking doesn’t help, and we end up creating more problems. Council has gradually changed over the past few years, as witnessed by our LTCCP, and I would continue to reinforce that change.”
Mr Fisher says he is humbled by the support he has received since announcing his intention to stand, and looks forward to working with the community to create a better Kāpiti.
