Dear Editor
I guess in the name of democracy it’s good to see Ross Church throwing his hat into the ring for the mayoralty. However, its difficult to give him serious consideration based on his news release, which comprises nicesounding generalisations, but is a little short on detail on what he wants to achieve, or what he stands for.
The over-riding local issue is of course the Expressway, which is not mentioned at all in his release, even though it will affect virtually every Kāpiti resident. It’s importance cannot be overstated for once it is built there is no going back, as the Kāpiti we know and enjoy will be destroyed forever, with seemingly little benefit devolving to local communities.
We therefore need to know where each candidate for the mayoralty and council stands on this issue. For it’s only when candidates in favour of the Expressway, in both local body and national elections fail to get elected, that the government might take notice.
