Watzon in August @ Lembas Cafe

Sunday 1st – The Songwriter Sessions. This gig starts with an informal open mic at 4pm then we host special guest Donna Dean who is on a world-wide tour – she’ll tell you about that. One week you’ll find Donna singing her originals at a jump-blues gig, the next at a folk gig and then there’s the Bluegrass connection. Named the ‘New American Queen of Bluegrass’ by the Wall St Journal, Rhonda Vincent, cut Donna’s song “Destination Life” which made the title track of Rhonda’s album released on Rounder Records in Nashville in 2009. The album was nominated for a Grammy in January 2010. Come on down. Donna is a classy live act and rising kiwi talent at its best. Her new album will be on sale. Koha entry.

What do a Kiwi and a Caribbean have in common? A passion for syncopated rhythms, evocative tunes and uncompromised lyrics. An unusual mix for sure, but that’s what Latin America is all about – a melting pot of races and cultures that generates the Latin passion for exuberant self-expression through music.
They will take you on a colourful journey through Latin America and via their own compositions to their own universal experiences of life.
