‘The truth will out’ is an old saying, meaning that if you wait long enough the proper sources will come to accept it, says former KCDC Councillor Don Briggs.
Mr Briggs says the latest so-called breaking news that there is no possibility of Air NZ coming to Paraparaumu Airport has been known by those who have manipulated the situation and those who opposed it, from the first announcement.
“I personally reported the fact long ago after checking my sources. It is just one more step in the saga of what we have come to accept today as smart business. Kāpiti people who still believe in truth over spin and are willing to read the ‘small print’ will already be aware that right from the first airport zone change the ‘plan’ has been to convert all the green space into the highest possible profit income for the owner.”
Mr Briggs says Council insiders knew it, the team of experts employed by the owner knew it, the Chamber knew it, the local news media were certainly told about it ad nauseam, the Environment Court were told about it under appeal and ruled it outside their brief.
“It became a sort of institutionalised king with no clothes. It was clear from the first meeting I had with the owner, when he told me, “You cannot make a profit out of running an airport.” This can only mean one thing and it cannot be construed to mean the expansion of an Airport.”
Mr Brigg says there is not a single impediment in the plan to deny the owner a free hand to introduce any activity he wishes entirely outside any aviation interest, at his own discretion.
“In summary the community handed over all public control of the use of all the airport land from public choices to private.”
