The Horowhenua/Kāpiti 1 badminton team chalked up another victory in the third round of the North Island Division 4 competition played last Saturday.
The team travelled to Wellington and took on Auckland in the first tie of the day.
Mike Robertson, Mark Branagh and Johnny Snow all won their mens singles matches, while Vanessa Marshall was the only singles victory for the ladies, to leave the score at 4-4. The mens doubles combinations of Robertson / Mark Nicholls, and Branagh / Snow both won their matches, as did the ladies doubles combination of Marshall / Stephanie Robb, for HK to take a 7-5 lead.
The mixed doubles combinations of Mark Nicholls / Sue Wooddin, Mike Robertson / Verity Potter, and Johnny Snow / Stephanie Robb all won their matches for a convincing 10-6 victory.
In the second tie HK was due to play Wellington, but due to the floor surface becoming damp and slippery, the tie has been postponed to a later date.
In the second round of Division 5 competition, the Horowhenua / Kāpiti 2 team travelled to Tawa and took on Wellington North in their first tie.
The HK team again found the going tough, with Paul Knighton claiming the only victory in his mens singles match.
Scott Dewar and Dan Lobb had a hard fought mens doubles match, going down narrowly in 3 sets, as did the mixed doubles combination of Dewar and Lynne Strickland.
The final result was a 15-1 victory to Wellington North.
The second tie for Horowhenua was against top of the table Hutt Valley who again proved too tough for the HK team.
Jo Zakaria had a narrow 3 set loss in his mens singles, then teamed up in the mixed doubles with Jacinda Russell for another close 3 set loss. The final result being a comprehensive 16-0 victory for Hutt Valley.
