Kāpiti Coast Council of Elders discuss disability issues

The Council of Elders has recently met, where our speaker was Jim Webber, Chair of the Kāpiti Disability Reference Group. He gave a very informative talk about the issues faced by the group, and about the key factors such as access in terms of both transport and to buildings.
The group is also interested in supporting the best possible quality of life for all living in the district. The Disability Reference group itself consists of 17 members and they meet six times a year.
Other matters that were covered at our meeting involved short reports from those who had attended KCDC Council Meetings, updates from Super-Grans and Community Board Meetings. We also focussed on planning around events related to the plans for celebrating the International Day of the Elderly October 1st, but are waiting for more details . It should be a great opportunity for all.
We invite any retired person to attend our meetings they are held monthly. The venue is the Emergency Operations Centre in Fytefield Place, starting at 1pm and usually finishing around 3pm. It would be great to see you there! After all, our age group are now 27% of the population here on the coast, so here is a chance for some of us to find out more about what’s happening in our area particularly with reference to how it affects us!
