Labour MP Darren Hughes is excited to be meeting the five Youth MPs from the Horowhenua and Kāpiti Regions attending Youth Parliament this year in a joint meeting on Monday with the region’s Youth Councils.
“I wanted to arrange a joint meeting of the Horowhenua and Kāpiti Youth Councils to meet with the Youth MPs before this big event in July” said Mr Hughes.
“The idea would be for our Youth MPs to introduce themselves, say a little bit about Youth Parliament and then listen to the views expressed by the rangatahi who sit on the Youth Councils. This will give the Youth MPs an even better idea about what it’s like to head into Parliament with the community’s views it’s great that our Youth MPs and rangatahi are able to interact,” he said.
“It’s also a big deal that we have so many going from our area – I’ve been involved with every Youth Parliament and this is the best level of representation so far!”
The meeting will involve the five Youth MPs, 10 representatives from the Horowhenua Youth Council, 10 representatives from the Kāpiti Youth Council and MPs Darren Hughes and Nathan Guy.
It will be held on Monday 28 June at 5pm at Te Wananga o Raukawa in Ōtaki.
Our Horowhenua Kāpiti Youth MPs are Kieran Welsby (Darren Hughes), Caleb Jago-Ward (Nathan Guy), Katene Morris (Tariana Turia), Tihema Baker (Mita Ririnui), Jac McDonald (Sue Kedgely)
